The 64 Sport Coupe (64 SC) is the newest model in Viking's Sport Series and the largest Sport Coupe the yard has built. She is based on the hull of the 64 Convertible, of which Viking says more than 40 have been delivered, and the yard credits that proven platform for her dry, smooth ride and precise handling. The idea came from a long-standing Viking owner, who has commissioned the first boat through Jefferson Beach Yacht Sales, Viking's Great Lakes dealer.
Viking's Sport Coupe line started with the 52 Sport Yacht and went on to include Sport Coupe and Sport Tower versions of the 42, 44, 48 and 54. The 64 SC takes the formula up to 64 feet, a length at which Viking also offers the Convertible with an open bridge and the Enclosed Bridge.
Exterior and command deck
Viking Design Manager David Wilson says visibility becomes the main design challenge as express and coupe models grow. The team began by fixing the sightlines at the helm, and those sightlines then set the proportions, the profile and the interior layout. The result is a command deck with a clear view through a single-piece, mullion-free windscreen. The exterior lines place the 64 SC alongside the 54 SC and the new 50 SC.
The command deck has a raised centreline helm with a two-person companion seat to port. Opposite is an entertainment centre with a pop-up HD television and an icemaker, facing an L-shaped lounge, and the electrical distribution panel is reached from here. There is a hatch above the helm seat, demisters on the windscreen and an electric sliding door to the cockpit.

Cockpit and fishing equipment
The cockpit is almost identical to that of the 64 Convertible, with fish boxes, bait freezers, refrigerated boxes and access to the engine room. The mezzanine is deeper and has a raised lounge on the port side, an idea borrowed from the Viking 82. It also holds a bait freezer and, to starboard, a tackle cabinet with pull-out drawers.
Standard equipment includes a livewell in the transom box, a transom door with a lift gate, an aluminium backing plate laminated into the cockpit sole for a fighting chair or table, and four flush-mounted rod holders. Add a custom Palm Beach Towers tuna tower and the same platform becomes the 64 Sport Tower.

Layout options
The 64 SC comes in two main layouts. With the galley up, the galley sits on the starboard side of the command deck and the lower deck has four cabins and three heads, giving accommodation close to that of the 64 Convertible. With the galley down, the command deck becomes a saloon with a dinette and an L-shaped lounge. That layout has three cabins, although the optional crossover forward cabin and a convertible dinette add berths.
The master cabin has an athwartships berth as standard or a fore-and-aft berth as an option, and with these choices Viking offers ten plans in all. The first boat has the galley down and the crossover forward cabin. The specification includes a Sub-Zero fridge and freezer, a stacked washer and dryer, and walnut joinery.
Construction and engines
The hull is resin-infused, with Baltek end-grain balsa and Airex foam cores and hybrid carbon and E-glass laminates. The whole hull skin is laid up in blister-resistant vinylester resin. Propeller pockets reduce draught, and the boat comes prepared for a Seakeeper gyro stabiliser. Steering is Optimus electric power steering, and the standard generator is a 21.5 kW Onan.
Standard power is twin 1,550 hp MAN V12s. The options are CAT C32s at 1,925 or 2,025 hp, MAN V12s at 2,000 hp and MTU 12V 2000 M96X engines at 2,002 hp. Viking quotes speeds above 40 knots for the Sport Coupe and Sport Tower.

Who is she for?
The 64 SC is for buyers who fish seriously but also want to cruise with their family. The cockpit carries the equipment of a tournament boat, and the command deck can be used as an enclosed, air-conditioned saloon. Compared with a flybridge convertible, the single-level layout makes it easier for an owner to run the boat and to move quickly between the cockpit and the helm. Whether the galley goes up or down depends on how many people will be aboard and how the boat will be used. The engine choice affects both speed and running costs. Both decisions are best settled during the sea trial and the survey.
